Love

do not throw love like a stone
bring it like a rose
cover the thorns in the palm
so that the buds will be visible

if the soul is in sorrow don't tease
the distressed heart by beauty
of smooth bliss or of holy felicity
hide it like a lily in the bosom

and when the eyes are washed
and heaven bows to cheeks
and thirst for God is in the heart
then behold the quiet roses

do not throw love like a stone
bring it like a rose
cover the thorns in the palm
to open the buds in the heart
