Music box

Within a dusty attic dim, among forgotten frames,
Where webs conceal the shadowed walls in silence without names,
I found an ancient wooden chest beneath the weight of years,
And hoped inside to find some relic hidden there sincere.
I brushed away the settled dust of long-forgotten days,
Old treasures seemed to promise me their long abandoned grace.
But deep within the music box, through brittle springs confined,
Two figures stood in silence there among the faded signs.
Chorus:
Dance with me once more tonight,
Though many years have passed away.
Beneath the ringing hush of time
Together we forever stay.
In this waltz and in our dreams,
Music in our hearts still sings.
2.
A ballerina dressed in white stood frozen half-asleep,
So elegant and silent there within the attic deep.
The dancer held his lady close through countless vanished years,
So noble in his black tailcoat beyond forgotten tears.
I gently touched their fragile cheeks with cracks of passing years,
And brushed the dust of silence from their porcelain tears.
Then searched to find the hidden spring that once had made them move,
Those dolls who long ago had learned the art of love so true.
Chorus:
Dance with me once more tonight,
Though many years have passed away.
Beneath the ringing hush of time
Together we forever stay.
In this waltz and in our dreams,
Music in our hearts still sings.
3.
But suddenly the music box released a fragile sigh,
A melody arose at once through creaks both faint and dry.
The lady softly trembled there beneath the silver dust,
And in the waltz they turned once more as though reborn from rust.
No longer did they gently glide the way they used to flow,
Their dance was torn by cracking sounds and whispers faint and low.
Yet in those stra-nge and broken moves, imperfect, frail, and small,
Lived longing for a vanished age still breathing through it all.
Chorus:
Dance with me once more tonight,
Though many years have passed away.
Beneath the ringing hush of time
Together we forever stay.
In this waltz and in our dreams,
Music in our hearts still sings.
4.
For many years through grief and dark they kept their memories,
Of faded beauty long concealed beneath eternity.
And waited for the day they’d wake again from timeless sleep,
Returning through their ancient dance to moments buried deep.
Perhaps time wishes to erase and carry all away:
Old love, forgotten faces, songs that slowly fade to gray.
But sometimes chance, by wisdom of the Maker from above,
Unites again two distant hearts through memory and love.
Chorus:
Dance with me once more tonight,
Though many years have passed away.
Beneath the ringing hush of time
Together we forever stay.
In this waltz and in our dreams,
Music in our hearts still sings.
And let the passing years still hear through ages drifting far,
How once the dolls had danced their waltz beneath forgotten stars.
And may that long-forgotten dance dispel our grief at last,
For even death itself cannot bring silence to that waltz.
